Oil analysis is a non-destructive test used to assess the condition of lubricants
and determine the type and amount of contamination present. Because of the criticality
of lubrication to most industrial equipment, oil analysis trending over time is
one of the most powerful predictive tools for identifying potential failures. Oil
analysis looks for three basic categories of elements affecting the lubrication
effectiveness: wear metals, contaminants, and additives.
Periodic monitoring may prolong lubrication life and identify elements that may
indicate component or lubricant degradation. Common oil tests include: spectrography
(metals analysis), viscosity, total acid number, water, soot, oxidation, nitration,
particle count, shape analysis and water analysis.
Some of the benefits of the
ITR
oil analysis service are analysis capability, independence and data.
ITR
lubrication analysts look at all laboratory results to assess results, identify
insights and understand the interactions of variables. Because
ITR
is an independent oil analysis service provider,
ITR
does not profit from recommendations and corresponding corrective action. Our partners
(customers) are assured the advice provided will not be tainted. Because
ITR
treats all of its work as data,
PdM
reports by assets are integrated at the request of the customer. Also and as with
all
ITR
PdM
services, reporting is integrated with the internal processes of customers on demand.
